Mike Lorensen graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University in 1981 and in 1984 from the WVU College of Law with honors. Mike's father, the late Willard D. Lorensen, was a professor of law at WVU for 26 years, seven as dean of the College of Law. Mike's mother, Joann, taught math and science to 5th-and 6th-grade students in the public schools of Monongalia County for over 25 years. Mike's brother, Rick, was a prosecutor and is a public defender in Greenbrier County. Mike's brother, Charlie, is a lawyer in Charleston and served Governor Caperton as his Tax Commissioner.
